How to prepare the best “Pierogi”

If you want to amaze your guests at a dinner. For a simple, varied and playful meal…

Let’s fly abroad!

Ingredients

“Pierogi” are semi-circular dumplings of unleavened dough, stuffed with cheese, farmer's cheese, mashed or other forms of potato, sauerkraut, cabbage, onion, meat, mushrooms, hard-boiled eggs, dry cottage cheese, or any combination thereof, or with a fruit filling such as blueberry.

Mashed potatoes with farmer's cheese and onion are the most common filling and they are often called Russian pierogi,Ruskie pierogi”.

Preparation

“Typically, dough is rolled flat and then cut into circles using a cup or drinking glass. The filling is then placed and the dough folded over to form a half circle.

They are typically boiled until they float, and then covered with butter or oil. They are typically served with plenty of sour cream, less commonly with apple sauce, and the savory ones are often topped with fried bacon or cooked onions.”

PIEROGI FILLINGS

Sauerkraut and Mushroom Pierogi Filling
”Kapusta z Grzybami – nadzienie”

“2 cups of sauerkraut 1 cup mushrooms
1 onion chopped butter, salt, pepper
Cook sauerkraut for 10 minutes. Drain and chop well. Fry onion and chopped mushrooms in butter, add sauerkraut and fry until flavours are bladed. Cool and fill dough circles.”

Potato Filling “Ruskie Pierogi”

1 lb. cooked potatoes and 6oz. cottage cheese through a meat grinder. Add 1 small raw egg to this along with 1 medium onion, finely chopped and browned to golden brown. Add salt and pepper.”

Cheese Filling “Pierogi z Serem”

“Rub 1 lb well drained cottage cheese through a wire sieve, then mix thoroughly with 1 small egg (raw) and salt. The filling swells during cooking, so do not use too much. Serve immediately, after pouring butter over them.”

The place of France in Poland

First of all, Poland is a large country known for its very popular characters: Maria Sklodowska-Curie, the wife of Pierre Curie, whose work in Chemistry has been rewarded by Nobel prices; the musician Fryderyk (Frédéric) Chopin born in the village of Zelazowa Wola, to this day his mazurkas and polonaises are the cornerstone of Polish national classical music; the astronomer Mikolaj Kopernik born in Torun, the filmmakers Roman Polanski or Andrzej Zulawski, and at last the Pope Jan Pawel II (John Paul II) whose real name is Karol Wojtyła, and probably others are forgot!

It is necessary to underline that some of these celebrities have a very close relationship with France or have French origins. This is the case of Frédéric Chopin, Marie Curie, Roman Polanski who is in a couple with Emmanuelle Seigner, or Andrzej Zulawski who has been married for a many years to Sophie Marceau, one of the biggest French actresses.

All these examples are simply coincidences but the polish have always had a lot of admiration and sympathy for France.

Since May 2004, the date of its entry into the European Union, Poland has become the country that has given rise to many political or economic controversies on the mainland.

However, it is impossible to cross the different areas of this country without seeing a French brand, store or supermarket!

Auchan, Carrefour, Leroy Merlin… everybody can find French products, from food, like cheese, to cosmetics and so on… It takes an integral part of the biggest polish cities: Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Gdansk…

This is the proof that there is a considerable trade collaboration between these two countries.

Nowadays, it is very interesting to hear the reactions of polish people about the riots in Parisians neighbourhoods, or about Zinedine Zidane’ behaviour during the last Football World Cup… they are worry to know why and how this kind of thing can happen in France.

Moreover, we just have to spend a week-end at the South of France to meet Polish. The “Côte d’Azur” has become the preferred destination for polish people who want to spend their summer holidays in the sea side.

The same is true for their winter holidays. French stations are the favourites for persons passionate of Alpine ski.

Consequently, France doesn’t represent an unknown and inaccessible place anymore.

Poland has managed to go out of the communist regime. Now, as a capitalistic State, it lets people be freer and realize what they wished for.

As an introduction, it is first necessary to define what a moralist and journalism are.

To begin, a moralist is a writer who proposes reflections on morality. The etymological meaning comes from the Latin words “mos”, “moris”: the uses and customs, human characters and ways of living - in short, the actions and behaviour of Men. The moralist does not have to be confused with “the moralizing” who gives moral lessons, contrary to the moralist who has a descriptive attitude and who deals, only secondarily, morality in the modern sense.

Second, journalism is a discipline which collects, verifies, reports and analyzes all the information regarding current events, trends, social or political issues and people.

Those who practice journalism are known as journalists. This profession consists on reporting, photographing or editing stories for media such as newspapers, magazines or television. It describes new events. Journalism plays a very important role in society.

Marguerite Duras’ quotation can be cited to show the role of journalism in a society. It underlines the influences of journalism on people thoughts as well as on their opinion. Thus, journalists have to be honest and they have to keep their integrity too.

If I have chosen to study in the USA, this is because as the most powerful country in the world, I think it is interesting to discover its policy, economy, culture, habits & way of life...
Improving my personal and professional skills in a very large country seems to be important and particularly in International Communications which I study.

Internet and the economy

Internet is a tool which lets people transmit information quickly all over the world.

Generally speaking, the use of the Internet allows companies and employees to obtain a lot of information at the same time.

Thanks to the Internet, we can be kept informed of everything that happens in the world, every day at every hour.

On one hand, the use of the Internet is a real opportunity to ensure dissemination of information on a large scale. On the other hand, it can be seen as a means of communication harmful because it can maintain a sense of fear and thus worsen the crisis.

Indeed, the surplus of information that we can found on internet on various websites can cause confusion.

This kind of situation can lead people to withdraw more money, so it increases the economic crisis.

Take the example of the Stock Exchange in New York. If there is a crash in New York, thanks to the Internet, speculators can get the information in Paris in real time.

Therefore, the Internet represents a danger for buyers because prices are falling resulting from a lower demand.

What emerges is that the Internet is a source of reliable communication, because there is a wide range of information. However, it may represent a danger for speculators.

My future vision

With the development of Internet in the labour market, it seems important to be informed about the various changes, the novelties, to be open-minded and so remain in technological watch.

The e-Business

Internet is a quick way to inform and communicate. It is a compendium of information. Last, it is simple.

On one hand, there is a convergence of application areas within the Internet (transport of text, voice and image) and the development of interoperability between technologies transmission and reception, fixed and mobile. This means that a horizon of a decade, each of us can receive and emit sound, text and images anywhere and in every kind of support. This also implies that each of us live in a network of communicating objects whose service will apply to most areas of our daily lives.

On the other hand, in combination with computers, the telecommunications sector is no longer a factor accompanying economic progress, but a force driving this progress. Already prevailing today, it will probably be decisive in the next twenty years.

Business networks and the Internet link ensure a better flow of information and, when appropriate, facilitate training, which is a source of progress in productivity. This allows, for example, a multinational information technology sector to hire only 2 to 3 people to all move several thousand employees around the world.

Personal reflexion about the Internet

In my opinion, the most important way that international communications have evolved significantly in recent years is Internet.

The Internet, as an icon of a globalized media world, with around 200 million people globally 'being online' seems to finally speed up this development. According to me, it is the push-pull technology which has formatted a new global public sphere.

Very recent approaches in cultural studies and sociology, interpret global media flow by a new globalized perspective which interprets arising new communication segments within the global context with effects on a diversified global culture.


How International Communications have changed?


Nowadays, it is impossible to open a newspaper without seeing a new kind of evolution in communication world.
The term international communications reflects the history of worldwide communication as well as its diversity. Its development has tremendous influence all over the world.

The 5 ways that international communications have evolved significantly in recent years are:

- Internet;

- Transports;

- Telecommunications;

- New technologies: Videoconferences for example;

- Media.

Internet:

The Internet represents an indispensable tool both professionally and personally. Sending e-mail has developed significantly and it is necessary in our daily work.

The website has now become an essential communications tool for businesses. It allows presenting its offer all over the world and in a few clicks: moreover, it also represents a real card for those who wish to learn more about the business of your company.

The blogs are not limited to teens!

It is the latest interactive communication tool available to businesses. Many companies have quickly found a real interest in setting up a blog. This communication tool usually comes in addition to a website. It helps to provide an interface for direct communication with its customers (or users). Unlike the forum, the user can leave an opinion without prior identification...

Transports:

It must be noted that transport has also evolved significantly in recent years, especially air transport. There is a wide range of flights which are not as expensive as many years ago, and it facilitates international trade.

Aviation has offered alternatives legible enough to previous modes of transport.
The scientific and technical telecommunications do not as spectacular failures but are, instead of pursuing scientific and technological areas, information technology and optics and the confluence of these developments.

Telecommunications:

Using the phone and sending sms, as Internet, is part of everyone's daily life. It is used as a means of communication in advertising for example.

New technologies:

Videoconference is the most significant and is also a good example. It is now possible to communicate with several people at the same time without moving.

Media:

There is a variety of communications modes, including major media advertising (press, television, cinema, radio and so on) and non-media supports (sales promotion, direct marketing, events organization, sponsorship, Internet). It represents a growing share of advertising spending in the budgets of international communication.
